Design Technology & Food Technician (Term Time Only) £21,400-22,083

Hours: Full time

Main Duties:
  • Be responsible for the preparation of rooms and resources for effective delivery of the curriculum for years 7 to 11 and sixth form
  • Support Teachers when planning and during practical sessions.
  • Advising and supporting Teachers on H&S requirements with safety guidlines, COSHH, CLEAPPS, manual handling etc.
  • Clearing away and cleaning down following practical lessons and in line with H&S requirements.
  • Maintain and complete inventories and basic maintenance of equipment including a daily check of the emergency stop systems.
  • Support extra-curricular activities and support teachers with open evenings.
  • Liaise with suppliers and outside contractors through the site manager to ensure correct processes are followed.
  • Support the Curriculum and subject leads with the updates and accuracy of risk assessments for new and existing processes and materials used in the department.
  • Use IT effectively and professionally to produce templates/spreadsheet etc and update and maintain databases as required, including maintaining inventories of equipment and stock.
  • Be aware, understand and comply with policies and procedures relating to the school safeguarding and child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection.
Person Specification:
  • Good standard of General Education including literacy and numeracy.
  • NVQ4 Qualification in technology or equivalent qualification/ experience is desirable.
  • NVQ4 Qualification in technology or equivalent qualification/ experience.
  • Able to relate well to a range of people e.g. colleagues and young people.
  • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Knowledge of working in a school environment is desirable.
  • Working knowledge and skills of technology workshop preparation and practices and the use, understanding and maintenance of specialist equipment/resources .
  • Working knowledge of national technology curriculum according to particulars of the post is desirable.
  • Full working knowledge of Health & Safety legislation/regulations and its application in respect of school technology and food curriculum including undertaking risk assessments is desirable.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal with good communication skills, working to your own initiative with good organisational, time management and trouble shooting skills.
