Production of a high-quality surface finish using an abrasive belt (linisher), graded polishing wheels or polishing compounds and a power-driven mop. Final finishing could be done by hand using liquid polish and a cloth.

The finishing of large sheets or workpieces too large to bring to fixed machines. Most portable power tools are electrically operated but pneumatic tools are used where compressed air is available. The use of tools with integral low-voltage battery packs is increasing.
